The Topp Twins
Last night we laughed ourselves silly at the local filmhouse watching "The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls". The movie documents the careers of New Zealand twins Jools and Lynda Topps, two yodeling lesbian comedian activists who really won our hearts with their down-home, down to earth nature and good hearted, good natured good times.

Watch some clips and see for yourselves. They have various character sets whom they play spanning both class and gender.

Wrapping my head around this

Okay, I had a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of a woman playing a man playing a woman in Victor Victoria. The clips here made me think of lesbians playing male drag queens playing lesbians.......

I'm so confused.

Re: Wrapping my head around this

Yes. Gender as performance. As Ken and Ken they are certainly and clearly drag kings. As the other types you could just agrue they are playing types. I don't think they would see themselves as playing a man playing a woman - they are just playing (certain types) of women. However, as Patty Smith agrued, any gender is drag.

Regardless, we were amused and charmed. They've been performing at what are essentially the 4H, County Fair and Future Farmer events in New Zealand with great success and popularity in New Zealand from what appears to be the 80's.

Re: Wrapping my head around this

Also, in many ways they remind me of French and Saunders. Are you familiar?
